Pro-Registration Stance
For a great many, their Service Canine needs are such that there are very specialized facilities to meet those requirements, seeing/hearing/allergy alert being among the top big five. Those also require a great deal of money most cannot afford and insurance doesn’t cover. This is the exact place and point where ‘Service Dog Registration’ and the legal/economic battle comes into play and is keeping the whole industry in an unpredictable mess if one allows it to be. For insurance coverage for canine service animals is to be mandated then those facilities and services training and providing such dogs require being held to a recognized legal set of standards; to create a viable and legitimate set of standards requires millions of dollars of sanctioned research, spending billions to verify and falsify the 1000s of claims made relative to everything down to and including the sentient/non-sentient decision for Canis – familiarous. That ruling is what will become legal prescient relative to ALL other forms of non-human life – full stop. When talking to my congresspersons trying to get some real resolution going for this, when
pushed into a corner with precision questioning, this is the final answer. I am not saying this in the context of, “I heard from such-&-such that so-&-so was told, ..” NO, that is the exact opposite of what I’m declaring, I myself have been told this on 3 different occasions. It matters not who those individuals were because they’re all dead and cannot refute/admit either. This is exactly why I choose to be involved with SDRA, after doing my own research, making phone calls that actually got a return call – and conversation – was this registry. The woman who founded/managed it 7-8yrs ago when I first enrolled Faol, if memory serves me right, the pandemic took her out of the picture (I’ll have to do some checking, but I do remember a memorial email message from them). There’s only one registration that’s been
actively engaged with getting a Formal Legally Recognized Registry, and that’s this one. While I strongly recommend to anyone with a Home-Trained Service-Canine to register, I do not require it from anyone. I know three/3 key things relative to this: 1. – there needs to be one, and all the certified infrastructure it requires, 2. – there’s only one/1 actively trying to
resolve this on both ends, active registration and the pollical /legal front as well; 3. – I’ve “tested” the system in having someone call/report my dog’s i.d.# as found and was notified immediately, 7 yrs later, they immediately updated my account when I couldn’t find the old contact information. And that is the whole point in having it, there’s a real service functioning and it’s doing what it’s intended to do. Legally “required” or not has zero to do
with the point, other than it IS the point – by lack thereof.
